Kitware to Demo ParaView/VTK and Showcase Advances in HPC and Visualization at SC14
Kitware’s open-source solutions are being highlighted through presentations, invited talks, tutorials, and videos.
Kitware, a leader in the creation and support of open-source software and state-of-the-art technology, is exhibiting recent work in HPC and visualization at Supercomputing 2014 (SC14) in New Orleans, LA.
SC14 is a premier conference in the scientific computing field. Attendees will include industry leaders in high performance computing, networking, storage, and analysis. For the conference, Kitware will be stationed at booth #1354.
As part of the ParaView Showcase, Kitware will host presentations from renowned collaborators at its booth throughout the conference, where they will discuss how they are leveraging ParaView, VTK, and other technology in their work. Featured presenters include Alejandro Ribes (Électricité de France), Sean Ziegler (Engility Corporation), James Ahrens (Los Alamos National Laboratory), Kenneth Moreland (Sandia National Laboratories), John Biddiscombe (CSCS Swiss National Supercomputing Centre), Paul Navratil (Texas Advanced Computing Center), Joseph Insley (Argonne National Laboratory), Jim Jeffers (Intel), and Alan Scott (Sandia National Laboratories).
Kitware will also be involved in this year’s event in a number of tutorials. On November 16, 2014, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, a team will present the tutorial “Large Scale Visualization with ParaView” in room 389. This tutorial will showcase the architecture of ParaView and the fundamentals of parallel visualization.
On the following day, from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm, a team of Kitware and its collaborators will present the tutorial “In Situ Data Analysis and Visualization with ParaView Catalyst” in room 394. This tutorial will examine the architecture of ParaView Catalyst and the fundamentals of in situ data analysis and visualization. In addition, a group of presenters will discuss “An Image-Based Approach to Extreme Scale In Situ Visualization and Analysis” in the Big Data Analysis session in rooms 391-92 on November 19, 2014, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
In conjunction with SC14, the Second Workshop on Sustainable Software for Science: Practice and Experiences (WSSSPE2) will be held on November 16, 2014. At the workshop, Marcus D. Hanwell (Kitware) will provide an overview of a collaborative paper, “Sustainable Software Ecosystems: Software Engineers, Domain Scientists, and Engineers Collaborating for Science.” This paper focuses on the significance of collaborations when developing advanced scientific software, where sustainability, reproducibility, and extensibility are important. Kitware will also present two papers at PyHPC 2014 on November 17, 2014. These papers are titled “Python Enabled ParaViewWeb for HPC Analysis and Visualization” and “Scientific data analysis and visualization at scale in VTK/ParaView with NumPy.”
Furthermore, members of Kitware will participate in invited talks. On November 16, 2014, Sébastien Jourdain (Kitware) will present a talk on ParaView at the HPC Developer Showcase. In addition, on November 19, 2014, from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm, Robert Maynard (Kitware) will explore “VTK-M: Uniting GPU Acceleration Successes” at the NVIDIA booth. Also on November 19, members of Kitware, as well as several of its collaborators, will highlight “In Situ MPAS-Ocean Image-based Visualization” at the Visualization and Data Analytics Showcase. This video discusses a novel framework for highly interactive, image-based in situ visualization and analysis that promotes exploration.
In addition to showcasing technology at the conference, Kitware will be actively recruiting at the SC14 Student Job/Opportunity Fair on November 19, 2014, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Kitware team members develop cutting-edge technology that has a real impact, driving innovation and change in the medical, HPC and visualization, software process, data and analytics, and computer vision fields. Interested candidates can also visit Kitware’s booth to learn more about career opportunities.
